Walkin' The Dogs cont'd AKA It's dangerous out there!

In my life I walk the dogs daily. Twice a day actually. Keeps the edginess down with the pups and me. It also reinforces lessons from the day before. This new pup Sadie Mae is not street smart at all. We have to work on  it all the walk. Of course the squirrels, birds, and rabbits are major handicaps along the way.

But, in all honesty, the puppers and wildlife are the least of my problems.

Drivers, as in human beings behind the steering wheel or bike handlebars (also skaters), are my major concern. These folks are unaware as to the realities of the situations around them. These folks just don't "see" the other vehicles in their immediate vicinity. And electronic distractions aren't required to to be in use to yield the resulting accident or injury. Some people just think they're better drivers than they are.

That said, concerning vehicles, it's worse for pedestrians. Right turn on red after stop? No problem at all  Mr Pedestrian and your dogs, I'll run you over in the crosswalk with you still in the walk signal because.... People just assume and don't look first.

And crosswalks not at major intersections? Proceed at your own peril. Folks will run you over simply because they aren't looking for pedestrians or pets on a leash. I had this happen just yesterday. Lady pulls onto the main drag, from a side street. We are two blocks down the road and had already started to cross before her turn. I have to stop completely in the middle of a four lane road because she never saw us. She was talking on her cellphone and I really don't think she ever saw us. Even more I don't think she was looking for pedestrian traffic in the roadway.

So please, from now on, please keep a eye out for pedestrians and pets along the road. Be aware a dog can break free from its owner at any time for any reason. Also understand a dog can easily pull a human onto the road given the right circumstances. Help everyone and proceed with caution.

Drive, (and walk) defensively. Stay safe out there.
