WOW!! Back to reality.
It's been quite the weekend. 13 hour road trip. New dog. Getting every pet (almost) synched up.
Pretty intense looking back on it.
Today we started settling into the new daily routine. When I was looking at it last week it seemed to me to be a fairly straight-forward process, I was looking through rose colored glasses in anticipation of the new girls arrival. OK. I was a bit delusional.
The reality is she impacts everything because:
A, She's still a puppy. A large 60 lb puppy with little concept of her size or strength.
B. She was living on a 10 acre farm with a doggy door. We live in town. No doggy door.
C. And while there were plenty of other animals on the farm,
she wasn't involved with them on a round the clock basis in close quarters.
It's been a loooong time since I've had a puppy. All rescues are a bit different. They are rescues for a reason. Even from a good experience they are unsure of their new family and new environment.
Sadie is adjusting to all the newness. Today we worked on walking as a team again. It's important for her to learn the commands and prompts I use. Ziggy the husky helps a lot with that. Crossing the street she has zero experience, so Zig has been super helpful with that especially,
Sidewalks are comparatively easy as I keep her lead shorter so she follows Ziggy. Of course she strives to get even but we aren't there yet. This afternoon we worked on walking in an open field as a team. Plenty of crossed leads, It was a disaster lol
She's settling in. Today she slept in the middle of the floor instead of under my chair for the first time.
I'll take that as a positive! Tomorrow I'll share a bit of her back story with you. Stay safe out there.
